American Airlines flight AA-1118 , McDonnell Douglas MD-83 registration N9677W from San Jose to Dallas took off from San Jose airport but engine number 2 struck a bird.The crew stopped the climb at 2000 feet shut down the engine declared an emergency and after made a turn diverted back to San Jose for a safe landing

Airline reported that the crew power down the engine as a precaution and not because of failure
