Jazz flight QK-7653 , Bombardier CRJ-200 registration C-GKEU from Washington to Montreal took off from Washington and was climbing through 11000 feet when the crew reported a cracked cockpit windshield.the crew stopped the climb declared an emergency and diverted back to Washington airport for a safe landing
On 2 December 2013 the Canadian TSB reported that the CRJ-200, registration C-GKEU, was operating IFR as flight JZA7653 from KDAC Washington Reagan Int'l to CYUL Montreal/Pierre Elliott Trudeau Int'l. On climb out at 11,000 feet, the captain's windshield shattered. Control was transferred to the first officer, an emergency was declared, a return to KDAC was requested and the crew actionned the QRH. Passengers were advised. The aircraft landed without incident. Windshield heat had been on the normal setting. The lefthand side windshield was replaced and tested serviceable.The aircraft was returned to service.
