Flightline(Spanish company) flight NM-7100 , on behalf of Manx2 Swearingen SA-227-BC Metro III registration EC-ITP from Belfast city airport UK to Cork Ireland with 10 passengers and 2 crew member it was trying to land on runway 17 when airplane's right wing struck the runway overturned , skidded for about 200m came up side down and caught fire.6 people killed including the 2 crew members , 4 people received major injures and 2 minor
Airport sources reported that airplane it was doing the third attempt to land when it crashed landed.First approached runway 17 that aborted then runway 35 that also aborted and on third attempt airplane crash landed
Irish AAIU reported that EC-ITP it is not equipped with an autopilot nor flight director so it has to be flown manually
At the time of accident it was fog and visibility it was 400 feet which requires CAT II approach but EC-ITP it is not equipped for CAT II so could make only CAT I approach that it has decision height 200 feet
On 16 March the AAIU released a preliminary report , reporting that airplane went around 2 times before the third time that crash landed. At the first approach airplane descended to minimum altitude 101 feet , second approach airplane descended to minimum altitude 91 feet. After airplane entered a hold for 15-20 min at 3000 feet waiting for weather to become better. At the third attempt at 400 feet altitude airplane deviated to the right of the runway centerline , airplane descended below decision height , engine power reduced and then re-applied when a sound warning in cockpit. At 100 feet altitude the crew called a go around.Airplane rolled to the left and after TWAS announced 50 , 40 after airplane impacted the ground. You can read here the preliminary report
On 7 February 2012 the AAIU reported that inspection of the engines revealed that the right engine had consistently been developing up to five percent more torque than the left engine, as a result of a defective right engine intake air temperature and pressure sensor. The defective sensor meant that the engine would deliver more torque than the left engine and also respond more rapidly to commands to increase power from the engine's power lever than the left engine. The investigation also determined that both engines were developing go-around power at the moment of impact; however both engines were below flight idle power at eight to six seconds before impact. At eight seconds before impact the right engine reached a minimum of zero torque while the left engine reached -9 percent torque (which means the left propeller was driving the engine instead of the engine driving the propeller). The stall warning horn also sounded repeatedly in the seven seconds prior to impact. The investigation is continuing.
