Sunwing flight SWG-423 from Puerto Plata to Toronto , Boeing 737-800 registration C-GOWG with 180 passengers on board it was taking off from Puerto Plata airport when the airplane struck a bird in right hand engine.The crew reported heavy vibrations and stopped the climb at FL120 declaring an emergency.At the time of incident it was heavy electrical storms so they couldn't divert back to Puerto Plata and the crew decided to divert to Punta Cana.Airplane climbed at FL200 and landed safely after about half hour at Punta Cana airport
On 30 October 2013 the Canadian TSB reported that at rotation during takeoff a bird was ingested into engine #2 (CFM56-7B26). The engine began to vibrate and the crew declared an emergency. The aircraft diverted to Punta Cana IA (MDPC) Dominican Republic and landed without further incident with emergency services standing by. Maintenance replaced 3 damaged fan blades and the aircraft was returned to service.
